A week ago I had to ** scoff ** print something out. Since I rarely print anything I never keep color ink around and of course the document I needed to print wasn’t solid black so I needed to force it use the black cartridge.

After countless frustration of poking through the print dialog of Preview I finally figured it out.

OS X - Mavericks (10.9)

  1. Paper Type/Quality
  2. Color: Grayscale
  3. Grayscale Mode: Black Print Cartridge Only

Only if my printer was smart enough to know it didn’t have a color cartridge loaded. #2014fail

I remember Chrome used to have this as an option but it looks to have been removed :-(
